         <title>YART programs at TLA -- Wednesday</title>
         <description><![CDATA[YART has a huge slate of programs scheduled for the 2010 TLA conference in San Antonio!  On Wednesday, April 14, we have a wonderful pre-conference and 2 great programs.

"This Ain't Your Mama's Library: Reaching a New Generation" features YA librarian and author Michele Gorman talking about ways to jumpstart your library programming.

<p>
At 2 p.m. we have Susan Allison and Nancy Kubasek presenting "If You Give a Kid a Book: Booktalks for Tweens and Teens."  Don't miss this session to hear about new and exciting books for your teens.

At "Young Adults Get a Clue: Latino Authors of Mystery Fiction", authors Sarah Cortez, Rene Saldaña, and Ray Villareal will share their insights into writing mysteries for young adults.

         <title>Texas Teens 4 Libraries</title>
         <description><![CDATA[The Texas Teens 4 Libraries (TT4L) registration information is now available on the YART website at: <br>

TT4L will take place on Friday, April 16, 2010 and is an opportunity for teens to experience the TLA conference.

         <title>YARI Award</title>
         <description><![CDATA[Happy New Year, YART Membership!  You already read this announcement in the <a href="http://www.txla.org/groups/yart/Assets/Files/newsletter110909.doc">YART newsletter</a>, but I am making another announcement here on the listserv:

YARI AWARD NOMINATIONS ARE BEING ACCEPTED!

Each year, YART honors a librarian who has shown exceptional ability in motivating young adults to read by developing and implementing a reading incentive program for young adults.  The YARI (Young Adult Reading Incentive) Award consists of an engraved plaque and a stipend of $250 to be presented at the YART General Business Meeting during the TLA Annual Conference.  

If you are interested in applying for the YARI, and yes, you can nominate yourself, please go to our website for the nomination form.

         <title>YART Volunteer Opportunities</title>
         <description><![CDATA[Dear YART Membership:
<p>
As Chair-Elect of the Young Adult Round Table, I would like to announce recruitment for the 2010-2011 YART officers and committee members.  You must be a current TLA and YART member.
</p><p>
There are various opportunities for involvement and leadership in YART.  Below I have included a brief description of each position. 
</p><p>

</p><p>
YART is currently looking into including some virtual meeting opportunities, but several positions do require attendance at face-to-face meetings.
</p><p>

Executive Board Positions:  Candidates for these positions will be appointed by the YART Nominating Committee and voted on electronically by all YART members.  The election will begin in February 2010 and results will be announced prior to TLA Annual Conference.
</p><p>
Chair-Elect:
</p><p>
    * Serve a one year term.
    * Appoint all chairs and committee members whose service begins at the next TLA Annual Conference.
    * Attend and vote at meetings of the YART Executive Board, including but not limited to, Annual Assembly, TLA Annual Conference, a February and a November meeting.
    * Serves as Chair the following year and Past Chair the year after.
</p><p>
Secretary:
</p><p>
    * Serve a one year term.
    * Record and read minutes of all Executive Board and general membership meetings of YART.
    * Attend and vote at YART Executive Board meetings, including but not limited to, Annual Assembly, TLA Annual Conference, and a February and a November meeting.

 </p><p>

Committee Positions:  The Chair-Elect appoints all chairs and members of committees whose service begins at the next TLA Annual Conference.

 </p><p>

Lone Star, Tayshas, and Maverick Reading Committees: (be sure to fill out the second page of the volunteer application)
</p><p>
    * Serve a three year term.
    * Members are required to nominate books and read all nominated books.  Please consider that this could be over 100 titles in a year.
    * Applicants may not be currently affiliated with an author, illustrator, or publisher in any capacity that might interfere with the integrity of the committee.
    * Applicants for the Lone Star Reading Committee are required to work directly with young adults in grades 6-8 throughout the term of their appointment.
    * Applicants for the Tayshas Reading Committee are required to work directly with young adults in grades 9-12 throughout the term of their appointment.
    * Applicants for the Maverick Reading Committee are required to work directly with young adults in grades 6-12 throughout the term of their appointment.
    * Members are required to attend the TLA Conference and the November voting meeting and may be required to attend one day of the TLA Annual Assembly.

 </p><p>

Texas Teens Read! Advisory Committee:  Texas Teens Read! is sponsored by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in collaboration with local libraries. The purpose of Texas Teens Read! is to encourage teens to read during their summer vacations and become lifelong readers and library users, to establish the library as a safe and engaging space for teens, and to provide programming that will help teens become caring, responsible, and successful adults.
</p><p>
    * Serve a three year term.
    * Members must be one of the following: a public librarian; a school librarian who works in conjunction with a public librarian; or a school librarian in a town that does not have a public library.
    * Members must work directly with young adults in grades 6-12 throughout the term of their appointment.
    * Applicants may not be currently affiliated with an author, illustrator, or publisher in any capacity that might interfere with the integrity of the committee.
    * Members are required to attend the TLA Conference and a Fall planning meeting and may be required to attend one day of the TLA Annual Assembly.

 </p><p>

Other Standing Committees:  Members of standing committees are not required to attend Annual Assembly or Executive Board meetings.  These positions are served via electronic correspondence.
</p><p>
Program Committee:
</p><p>
    * Serve a one-year term.
    * Assist the Chair in reviewing YART programming ideas for the following TLA Annual Conference.
</p><p>

Nominating Committee:
</p><p>
    * Serve a one-year term.

    * Assist the Chair-Elect in reviewing and selecting a slate of officers for the Executive Board.
</p><p>

Bylaws Committee:
</p><p>
    * Serve a one-year term.
    * Reviews the YART bylaws with the Councilor.

 </p><p>

I am thrilled to inform you that we are now opening the application process for the The YART- Linworth Publishing/LMC TLA Conference Stipend.
 
We offer 2 stipends - one for a YART school librarian and one for a YART public librarian.
