Jennifer Smith:

Head to south of downtown for El Mirador. Great Mexican food. It's even mentioned in a YA book -- Going Going by Naomi Shihab Nye.

Jeanne:

Thanks, Jennifer! Here's the link for El Mirador: http://www.elmiradorrestaurant.com/

If you are in the mood for German food, Shilo's Delicatessen on 424 E. Commerce is a good place to eat and it is not too expensive.

If you're looking for a great vegetarian restaurant, try Green at 1017 North Flores! It's less than 2 miles from the convention center and is reasonably priced ($8-10 for an entree); closed on Saturday. http://www.greensanantonio.com/

Necia Wolff:

For some restaurants off the beaten path, try some of these great local restaurants:

Sushi Zushi
203 S. St. Mary’s @ Market St.
210-472-2900
http://www.sushizushi.com/
Sushi and other Japanese cuisine
$10-$20/per person, cheaper and more expensive options available
Large menu that includes numerous Japanese dishes and extensive sushi options
I particularly like the spicy kanikama roll, the spider roll, and the miso soup.

Rosario’s Café y Cantina
910 S. Alamo St.
210-223-1806
http://www.rosariossa.com/
Mexican
Large menu that includes off-beat and vegetarian options in addition to Mexican restaurant standbys
I love Rosario’s guacamole, enchiladas Mexicanas, and grilled fish tacos.
$8 to $15 per person

Madhatter’s Tea House & Café
320 Beauregard St.
(210) 212-4832
Sandwiches, salads, burgers, vegetarian options, yummy desserts
Madhatter’s is a great place for breakfast or lunch. They have very interesting sandwiches and salads. Some of the best things I’ve tried include the vegetarian field green salad, the grilled hummus sandwich, and the cold chicken and spinach salad sandwich.
$8 - $10 per person

Kelli Wilder:

I second Necia's recommendation of Madhatter's Tea. http://www.madhatterstea.com/
I'm a huge fan of their egg salad sandwich and their many varieties of teas. Madhatter's always has plenty of vegetarian selections also. The ambience is fun and quirky and the staff are exceedingly friendly.

Guenther House
205 E. Guenther Street
210-227-1061
http://www.guentherhouse.com/
Located in Historic King William, Guenther House serves an excellent breakfast and lunch. The house pastries are phenomenal. The ambience of the 1860s house is worth the trip.

La Focaccia
800 S. Alamo
210-223-5353
http://www.lafocaccia-italian-grill.com/

La Focaccia is a great "red sauce" Italian restaurant within walking distance of conference. They have fantastic pizzas and their Chicken Romana is fantastic.

The Friendly Spot
943 South Alamo
http://www.thefriendlyspot.com/
If you are looking for a friendly bar with interior mexican appetizers, look no further. The Friendly Spot is a new, fun hang out for locals in the King William/Lavaca historic areas. Great place if you want to grab beer off the the Riverwalk and away from crazed tourists and flaming drinks!

Zinc Wine & Champagne Bar
207 North Presa
210-224-2900
http://zincwine.com/zinc/
Fantastic wine bar with huge selection of wine (bottle and by the glass) and champagne as well as an excellent menu. Great place to relax after a long day at conference... a little pricey but so worth it. I highly recommend the spicy spinach artichoke au gratin and of course, a nice robust red.

Blue Star Brewing Company
1414 South Alamo
http://www.bluestarbrewing.com/
Located a little further south of downtown in the Blue Star Arts Complex is the renowned Blue Star Brewing Company. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and of course their handcrafted beers are to die for. This is a great stop to plan an entire evening of checking out San Antonio's great local artists in the many galleries, enjoying live music, and eating great food.

Across the street from Madhatter's is a Mexican restaurant called Tito's. Wonderful veggie enchiladas!

If you get to San Antonio on Tuesday, check out the Big Band playing at Blue Star starting at 8:00 PM.

For 24 hour Mexican food and great atmosphere, go to Mi Tierra on Market Street.

On the Riverwalk, try the Republic of Texas for a good, all-around menu.

Try W.D. Deli on Broadway, close to the Witte Museum, for great sandwiches and soups.

Cynthia Sanchez:

I love the Liberty Bar on E Josephine St. Great portobello sandwich.

I will recommend not to hold back until you get big sum of cash to buy goods! You should get the mortgage loans or just bank loan and feel fine

I had a good time here but will return to google now.
